Millicent's Magic Mail

Children's room setup for mail program

The North Pole is about to get a whole lot of mail from Santa's friends in Fairhaven.

More than 75 children came to the library on Saturday during the Old-Tyme Holiday Village to write letters to Santa through our "Millicent's Magic Mail" program.

From 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, kids of all ages stopped by our letter-writing station in the children's room. While many of the older kids got right down to business to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas, some of our newer readers and writers took a different tack, asking their caregivers to help them spell or sound out questions for Santa. "Dear Santa," one five year old boy wrote, "Why do you always come down the chimney? My house has a regular door." Another child, dreaming of a white Christmas, wrote "Dear Santa, can you bring snow with my presents?" Our youngest visitors drew Santa pictures (our favorites were the Christmas rainbow unicorn and the fire-breathing dragon).

When they were done with their letters, children got to select a special wax seal for their envelopes, and then they were directed over to Town Hall to drop their letters in the Whitfield-Manjiro Friendship Society Mailbox. William from the Society was on hand to making special origami for those who dropped letters in the mailbox.

This week, Santa's helpers at the Council on Aging will work to make sure each child receives a reply to their letter.

Thanks for all who helped make the program a success, especially Community Development Coordinator Alyssa Botelho, who put everything together!
