The removal of trees is not within the scope of the library’s contract with the electrical upgrade contractors. This matter is solely an agreement between Eversource and the Town of Fairhaven.
There is urgency to proceed with the upgrade due to serious safety concerns, including fire risks associated with outdated electric panels and the placement of panels in areas of egress. Ensuring the safety of staff and patrons, as well as preserving the library building and its historical collections, is the responsibility of the Millicent Library Board of Trustees. The board is deeply committed to these duties and takes its responsibilities very seriously.
Alternative methods for bringing new service to the library were explored but were determined to be cost- and time-prohibitive. The library is contractually obligated to complete the electrical upgrade as planned.
The Millicent Library Board of Trustees remains committed to replacing any trees removed as part of this project.
